I’m Joyce, a fellow farmer in Malawi. I farm a few hectares of land in Malawi’s Mchinji district.

Here in Malawi, the conditions are ideal for growing maize, an important staple crop. But one of our biggest challenges comes after harvest.

Without access to proper storage facilities, we’re often forced to sell our maize to the first buyer who passes through. If we wait and try to store the crop at home, we risk losing up to 30% to pests, moisture, or even theft.

That means less income – and less food – for our families.

This all changed when the Clinton Development Initiative built a community warehouse that provides safe and secure crop storage. With access to reliable storage, we can wait to sell when the price is highest.

As many as 2,000 other farmers can now use the local warehouse, helping us maximize profits from our harvest.

With more income, we can invest in our futures. We can purchase:

Livestock

for access to animal byproducts like fresh milk and eggs.

Home Improvements

like bricks, windows, and a tin roof.

More Land

to expand our earning potential for next year.

Fertilizer & Seeds

for the next growing season.
